The third week of August has been a very short working week of only two days with 2 celebrations lined up!!!
We celebrated Navroz - Parsi New Year and Janmashtami - the birth of Lord Krishna.
Navroz is the day that marks the Parsi New Year for the followers of the Zoroastrian faith. It is a day when people pray for health and prosperity. On Navroz, Parsis visit the fire temple and exchange greetings with their community members. Families and friends sit together for an elaborate meal. Traditional delicacies are at the heart of the Parsi New Year celebrations.
Janmashtami is the birthday of Lord Krishna which is celebrated with great enthusiasm all over the country. A small cradle is placed with a miniature Krishna's idol in it as a symbol of his birth. Devotees swing the cradle joyously and celebrate the arrival of Shri Krishna by reciting aarti (prayer) and bhajans. Devotees fast for the whole long day, they break their fast at midnight or on the next day. Energetic men/women make a human pyramid to reach and break the symbolic pot, a replication of baby Krishna's childhood antics.
Students viewed videos and participated in discussions, thus gaining an understanding of the above festivals. Related Art and craft activities and joyful dancing added on to the festive spirit.
