On 26th August, Beaumont students enthusiastically Celebrated Tanabata - A Japanese festival. We discussed the importance and significance of this festival. We learned that this festival is also known as Star Festival.
Tanabata is originally based on a Chinese legend. It celebrates the meeting of two stars which are separated by the Milky Way. In Japan people celebrate this festival by writing their wishes on small pieces of paper (called tanzaku) and hanging them on bamboo branches with hopes they will come true.
Students enjoyed watching videos of the Tanabata story and listening to a few songs. We ended the session by playing the Indian and Japanese National Anthem.
For follow up activities, students class wise made beautiful Art work of Shiny Stars, coloured the Japanese flag, did fork painting depicting the Rising Sun and made their very own wish lists. It was indeed a wonderful celebration!
We truly appreciate the presence of our Japanese students- Fumino, Himari, Ryojiro, Ayumi, Mio and Yurino at Beaumont. We have also learned a few Japanese words and phrases from them.
