Every year in September, we have a grand weeklong celebration - Beaumont's Book Week, to commemorate International Literacy Day which falls on the 8th of September. The love for books is thus inculcated at a very early age in our young students. Scholastic India's book fair is on for the entire duration of the book week and is always a big hit with all our eager readers.
The Book Week Celebrations commenced with a visit by Clifford The Big Red Dog -a mascot of Scholastic. Children were very excited to meet Clifford and also viewed some of his adventurous videos. The following days too we had Dog Man and Geronimo Stilton (the quiet and intelligent Mouse), who visited us much to the delight of all our students.
Author Visit: The vivacious author- Ms. Nalini Sorensen, was our guest on day 1 and had us spellbound by a short narration of her book, Spellbound!!! The interactive story session was followed up with engaging related activities. About the Author- Nalini Sorensen is an award-winning children's author, who loves spending time with children and looking at the world through the wonder of their eyes. Nalini's books include Lucky, It's Diwali!, While You are Sleeping, Papa's Marathon, Dada's Useless Present, The Star that Saved the Day, Number March and Alphabet Dress-up.
Students were introduced/reintroduced to the Elements of a Story, through an animated story video -The Gingerbread Man. We discussed the main points (elements) of this story. Students will be exploring related activities pertaining to this concept over the next few weeks, which include story mapping.
On Wednesday 7th September was our Pyjama Party, our learners looked very cute dressed in nightwear (which was the dress code for the day) accompanied by their cute and cuddly soft toys. They enjoyed their relaxed day along with many stories, songs, and dance sessions.
During the week we included sessions of DEAR- Drop Everything And Read, which had everyone scurrying to pick a book to read as soon as they heard the bell ringing.
Character Parade- The Grand Finale of our Book Week. Every year our children enthusiastically look forward to coming dressed as their favorite storybook character. This year too the excitement and enthusiasm of our cute characters was overwhelming. We had fairies, witches, wizards, princesses various kinds of Avengers and indeed myriad storybook characters in our midst. The mascot Geronimo the Intelligent Mouse , too visited us. Beaumont was transformed into a Wonderland with our wonderful kids who indeed outdid themselves. They were confident speakers and good listeners. Kudos to everyone for their wonderful performance.
It has been a short but very fulfilling week, for all of us at Beaumont.
All the above engagements contributed to making our Beaumont's Book Week an amazing experience and a grand success !!!
